"RULES, GUIDELINE, and POLICIES of
SHADOWDALE"
Not all rules are written here as some things should be obvious. Try
to use your common sense, and try not to make the game less fun for
other people. Trying to exploit 'loop holes' in the rules is not
acceptable. The words of the Lords are in fact the law; This
section is just a way to give you a reasonable idea of what is
expected of you.
Rules:
1) Player killing (pkill) is not allowed. Player killing is killing
another PC (player character.) Do not do anything that hurts another
player, or do anything to them against their will.
2) Please do not be a public nuisance. Do not whine, argue, pester
every adept in the world to group, complain about lag, use bad
language, or otherwise be annoying over public channels. Public
channels include shout, gossip, auction, and title. (If we know what
you mean, it counts, even if you use misspelling or wild cards to
disguise bad language.) Do not spam (fill our screens with useless
text.) Do not advertise other muds.
3) Please do not multiplay. Multiplaying means you have more than
one of your characters on the mud at the same time. Having one
character on live, and one on linkdead, is considered multiplaying.
You may make as many characters as you like, as long as you are not
stat hunting, but only play one at a time. If you play with many
people from your own site and want to make sure you aren't looked at
as multiplaying then act as if you were not next to each other. Talk
via tell, gtell, etc., instead of just talking in real life.
4) Please do not share a character. Sharing is when two people play
one character, e.g., Joe and his girlfriend Sally both play the PC
Bobo. Do not share your password for your PCs with anyone.
5) Please do not loot the corpse of a player character (PC), or
otherwise take someone else's stuff. If you must get stuff from the
corpse of the person make SURE you have the permission of that person
first. The rule of thumb is this. If a player is actively trying to get
their stuff back from a death, it is theirs. Even if a mob loots it. If the
equipment scrapped or otherwise loaded on a mob, it is fair game.
6) Please do not steal kills. If you walk into a room that has a
person and a mob (mobile/monster/NPC) in it, ask that person first if
this is their kill. If someone is one room away from a mob, it is
considered to be their kill. Do not doorway/portal to an aggressive
mob when there are other possible portal targets nearby, as you are
likely to steal a kill. However, there is no mob 'reserving'. If you
are planning on killing a mob you must do so within a few minutes.
Please do not sit there reserving a mob for your group for 15 minutes,
or hold a mob you are incapable of killing.
7) Please do not harass other players. Bothering someone using
tells, attacking people, having a shouting match with someone after
it is expressed that you should be quiet, abusing people with emotes,
following someone around, ANYTHING that can be seen as harassment,
isn't allowed here. Respect that some people play 'in character'
while others do not, and may take your comments rather personally.
8) Please do not use or abuse bugs to your advantage. Examples are
things like the old "gold bug" we used to have, or a new bug to give
you double equipment, or anything that crashes the game. If you are
not sure if something odd is a bug, report it to bug just in case,
and ask an immortal if it is considered a bug. If you are caught
crashing the mud on purpose you will be nuked.
9) Please do not hoard equipment. It is fine to keep a couple of
spares. It is also fine to keep quite a few of items that have a
limited number of uses, such as potions or staves. Please do not
keep a large number of items that you are unlikely to use up, as this
may prevent other characters who need the equipment from getting it.
10) When making a new character, please pick a name that is not a
major AD&D figure as these are likely to be mobs at a later date.
Try not to pick a name that is shared by a mob/monster, or a name
that does not fit the genre, such as Spaceman or Telephone.
11) Always maintain control of your character. Do not have your
computer play your character. Do not allow others to get your
password, or play your character while you are in the other room.
Policies:
1) ShadowDale MUD is a work in progress. It is constantly changing,
and will continue to change and grow until it dies. Do not assume
that items, abilities, areas, or anything that is here today will
necessarily be here next week. Most changes are made without notice,
and most go unnoticed.
2) ShadowDale has a no refund policy, except in cases where you are a
victim of a rule breaker. This means, if you lose your equipment in
a crash, or due to a death, or because you dropped link and were force
rented while carrying to many rare items, the immortals will not refund
your equipment.
3) Some characters are IC (in character) and some are OOC (out of
character.) This means some people are playing make believe, and are
pretending they are actually a troll in a forest, while others are
just dying to tell you all about their RL (real life) problems. Both
types of character should try and deal with the others' style of
play. There are many ways to have fun on ShadowDale, try not to
destroy how others have fun.
4) If you have a problem or a question please read the help files or
ask other mortals first before asking an immortal. Most questions
immortals get can be answered by a mortal, and often mortals may be
able to give you more information or help. Some immortals or
knowledgeable players enjoy being newbie helpers; feel free to
gossip or shout for a newbie helper to answer your questions if you
are truly confused. Try gossip before you shout, it will get you
more personal, and more local, attention. If anything seems wrong
about your character, REMOVE ALL YOUR EQUIPMENT before asking an
immortal why you are 'buggy'. Remember, immortals are players also,
not employees, and are also trying to enjoy the game.
5) If you have any problems with others breaking rules, speak to an
immortal. If you have a problem with an immortal, speak to a high
god, such as a Lord or Lady. If you have a serious problem and no
one is on to speak with, you may mail them on the mud with mudmail,
see 'help mail', and some have email addresses list on 'whois'.
